As you realize that almost 2 months ago, I was attacked by virus called ‘Malware’. A virus designed by Chinese hackers, that was initially used to hacked into the United States Government websites, but it spread to other website all around the world.
What Did I Do To Counter The Virus Attack?
First thing first is to get your computer scan with anti virus software. As this is where it all started, because I was browsing through websites that are already infected with the virus, yet unknowingly the virus was not fully developed yet, as it was growing day by day in the infected website, but will still infect your computer silently.
Second, is to ready your back up files for your website or blogs, have it scan as well before you do anything.
Third, I uninstall my FTP program. Because the virus will transmit your FTP user name and password to the hackers, making the website theirs instead (if they are fast enough). The main reason why the hackers can get to most of the websites is because they have the user name and password that were stored in their FTP program.
Forth is to purchase a anti virus software that is specialized in destroying the virus in the hosting. I used (brand of anti virus software for hosting with affiliate links), it has kill the virus and now my hosting is save, and all my blogs and websites are clean now.
Fifth, is to change all your password for your hosting and domain name. This way the hackers will not be able to go into your websites again.
Why Did The Virus Attack Happen In The First Place?
I must say that its because I do not have a anti virus software, as it was already expired and I forgot to pay to extend it too. The newly infected websites were not detected by Google search engines yet, as it was too small and hard to detect its presence. It was only about 3 ~ 4 weeks later that I found out something went wrong to my blogs and websites. The virus was growing, gathering information and feeding information to the hackers.
What I will Do To Prevent Virus Attack Again
Now that I learn my lessons, I will:
1) Scan my computer daily for any virus detection, and to update the anti virus software daily. A anti virus software can tell you whether the website you are searching for is okay to go into or unknown or dangerous. It gives you a choice to decide.
2) Get a SFTP instead of a free version. SFTP mean Secured File Transfer Protocol, it will have encrypted the username and password when transmitting to your hosting. It is when you are transmitting, the virus is also at the same time transmitting to the hackers your hosting details and your domain details, yet at the same time attacking your hosting.
3) Do not go to search result sites that have warning signs on them. Of course if you go directly to the website using the domain name, you might not know that is infected, that is why if the anti virus software you owned cannot detect it, you might consider getting a better and latest version one instead.
4) Do regular backup on your website and blogs. This is one of the most important thing, if you lost your website or blog, that means all the content and ranking will be lost too. I have lost one of my blogs that I have put in some much effort in, but thank God I was able to copy most of the content I have on that blog, although I lost some of them. B(
I have finished what I have shared on the topic. Remember that you must act first in rectifying your websites and blogs, as it will seriously hurt your search ranking, if search engine finds out you have a virus in your website and you are not doing anything about it. They decrease your ranking day by day till they reject you in their search engine. Google is very strict on this area, so do not mess with Google as they want to protect their users.
If you want to find out other ways that can remove the virus, read remove ‘malware’.
