Findability Factors For Your Website

By Joshua Elliot On June 10, 2009 Under Website General

Making your website findable or searchable on the internet is not hard, but there are like 30% of the websites or web pages on the internet no being found or index by search engines. Of course the new website platform uses blog that is easy to use, free to create and best of all easily found on the Internet without any technique skills require.

Statics has shown that there are about 30% of the websites are not found or indexed. What are the findability factors for all websites? Let us find out together:

Keyword Research

The 1st step to making your website be found on the Internet. There is a saying that “if there are no demand for your product, you will be in deep trouble”. Okay, I made that up, but it’s true that if there are not a lot searches about your products or services, you may be getting very little traffic to your website.

How do we find out the search terms that they are using on the Internet?

For a start, I will use Google’s Free Keyword Tools, to find out the search terms online. What you need to do is to type in the primary keywords for your niche. For example if your niche is in ‘discount golf club’, key in the keywords into the white box, choose which country to target (if your affiliate product is targeted to U.S, set to U.S), enter the character as shown on the image and hit “Get Keyword Idea”.

You will get the number of searches for the last month. I must warn you that this is not the actual number of searches in the whole world, as there are other search engines as well. My recommendation is that if there are more than 500 searches in a day for your search term, you have a market out there.

By the way, you will find out other keyword terms that show on the research, which can help you to market as well if they are relevant to your niche.

On-Site Optimization

After you are done with your keyword research, you will need to place the keywords on the web page. Below are the some of the important place on your webs page the search engines will find:

Title Tag- The title of the web page, that is shown on the top left of the web page. The most important findability factor for your website.

Description Tag- Summary or elevator sales pitch of your web page. It will be shown on the search result of your targeted keywords.

Getting Your Website Index

This may sound stupid, but some of the websites are not index by search engines, and this is really hurting you because no one knows you exist on the Internet. But thank God that Google and Yahoo has tools to help your website index by their search engines. Here are the links:

Back Links From Other Websites

It is not just getting traffic from other websites. Having links from other websites (especially one way links to your website) can rank your website. To Google, the inbound link is like a vote to your website, telling Google that the other website trust you and is linking to you. This is powerful stuff, that if you understand how Google works  you will be ranking very well for your website.

You can get back links from article directories like Ezine, ArticleCity, etc… They are also a good source of back links to your website.

Dofollow Websites

I share that getting back links to your website is good for your ranking, but you must make sure that the website is a “dofollow“. It simply means that the search engines robots will be able to index and rank your website. Make sure the links from the website are related or relevant to yours, or the ranking for the link will not be strong. Read this post for more information. Click Here.

There are other factors as well, if you have other findability factors for your website to share, do put them in the comment box. I look forward to your thoughts, and I will be listening. Talk to me…. B)
