Businesses big and small can benefit from having their own website since almost everyone is connected to the internet. The Internet has made the world smaller and allows the information to travel around the globe almost instantly. Having a website can provide people with almost limitless benefits.

Websites also removes the traditional issues of office hours. Since a site runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week the service is constantly running. The site will need maintenance, but that is a minor issue.

Website also allows consumers the convenience of no longer having to search brick and mortar stores to find the products or services they need. A company website can provide them with all the information they need any time they wish to access it.

There are many CMS systems for people to choose from. Several of these programs are free. Be sure to look at the authors’ websites to make sure you pick the content management system that is right for your needs. Also, if you’re going to use the CMS for an e-commerce site then choose a package that is specifically designed with those needs in mind such as Zen Cart or osCommerce.

Joomla can be used for virtually any kind of website. This includes personal sites, business sites, online publications and e-commerce. Joomla is also easy to install and the setup process can be completely automated if your host has Fantastico installed.

Website Baker is a PHP based allowing users the ability to play around with the page to make it look how they want it to if they are fairly competent with PHP. There are also many add-ons that can be installed including photo albums, message boards, catalogs, and an online payment option.

Drupal requires special training in how to use it. Unless you are an expert in the system it’s best to avoid it and find something a little more beginner friendly.

Mambo offers a number of themes from which a good website can be created with only minor changes. It is also easy to use, versatile and popular.

phpWebSite offers users many things. Among the add-ons available are a document manager, calendar, form generators, polling system and photo album. However, it does require some PHP knowledge to do most of the customizing.

Before trying any software be aware that there may be a learning curve. Keep this in mind when choosing the right content management system for your website needs.

Website was developed about 15 years ago. It started as a full text medium and developed to full-featured and more sophisticated applications. As it improved from mostly text, more and more website images were added to make diverse web pages lively and interesting.

As these development emerge—more website images/photos were added several image formats was developed which was patronized by web browsers: The JPEG, GIF, and PNG Format. PNG is the newest of the three, but after few years, browsers who use the PNG format dramatically declined.

Now, the question is: Which format should you use to display your website images? Is it the JPEG, GIF, or PNG? To answer those queries let’s discuss each format to determine which format we should use.

The GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)

This format is the eldest of the three. It was out in 1987. The key feature of this format is 256 maximum colors only—which means that not more that 256 colors shall appear in an image, there’s limitation when used on photographs. If you use GIF to save digital images, you may observe that there are colors that don’t blend because of the limitation of color palette to 256 only.

Because GIF’s 256 color limitation, this format is best used on website images with limited colors like: logos and illustrations, screenshots with limited and solid color and saving them in a dialog box as GIF. Saving screenshots in GIF format will be smaller than saving it as JPEG format, even if you compress it to the highest extent.

Another advantage of using GIF is you can format your website images and make it transparent, which will enable you to make these website images and or additional graphics jive with the color or background of your webpage.

The JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

The JPEG is the most popular among the three formats; this format is used for saving images from digital cameras. From its description itself we may assume to what this format is designed for—JPEG-“Joint Photographic Experts Group”. JPEG can accommodate from thousands to millions of colors, unlike GIF which supports only 256 colors. Meaning this format is far more advanced than the GIF as far as photographic website images’ quality is concern. And JPEG format is supported by all web browsers and image editors which make it perfect format when displaying or loading website images and photos in your website.

Another thing about JPEG is that when using the JPEG format, it is faster loading website images on your website depending on how much compression you will use on the file. The more you compress the file the smaller it gets and the faster you will be able to load it in your website, which is good! But, the problem is, too much compression of the file will affect the quality of the website images/photos. Therefore, for the quality of the photos not to be put in jeopardy, you have to use the right amount of compression. The file becomes smaller but the photos would still look great!

And if you will just be printing using the JPEG format, compression is not advisable. You may do so but use minimal compression.

The PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

The PNG format is the latest. It was launched in 1996 as a response to overcome the technical shortcomings of the GIF format. Meaning PNG is the improved of the GIF type file format. PNG file supports the 256 colors (GIF) format also called PNG-8 (8-bit), PNG-24 (24 bit) 16.7 million colors, and even as high as 48-bits! However, there are advantages and disadvantages in using this PNG format in website images.

Using the PNG format, files tend to be larger compared either to GIF or JPEG files. The same as the JPEG file, PNG file can also be compressed like the JPEG format. PNG’s compression is lossless—meaning even if the file is compressed the quality of the file is the same as the original – Which is also the reason why the PNG file is much larger than the JPEG of the same file.

Another thing is the browser support. Yes, new browsers today supports PNG format but what about the visitors of your website? The visitors of your website might still be using an old-model browser—IE 6.0 for instance which does not support the PNG format, therefore they will not be able to see your website images which may be important for your visitors.

The PNG format is becoming trendier because of the quality of the website images it provides, especially for smaller sizes. You can use PNG format for smaller website images with very minimal difference. But when it comes to larger photographic website images, I will prefer the JPEG format.

Choosing an image format to be used in a website images is very important; you have to consider a lot of factors: One is the compatibility of the browsers which are widely used by your target consumer or visitor so that website images or photos will be easy to download or viewed. Another is the kind of website images or photos you will be loading to your web site, the quality and the size.

There are a few different ways to create a successful online site for your business. This will help you to market your products or services to the online community.

The first way is that if you have HTML experience you can build it yourself. There are many resources to learning HTML coding including researching it online or taking classes at a local college or school. This isn’t for everyone, and if you don’t know already know HTML then be sure to factor in the time that will be involved to learn the coding.

Another option is to hire a web designer to build the site for you. Before consulting any designer be sure you have a plan of what you want. Make a list of all the features, functions and appearance of the site that you want to have. It may be helpful to visit other sites to help generate ideas of what you want. Also make sure to see examples of the designers work. Be sure to discuss their and find out if there are any additional costs associated with adding certain features.

Many webpage editors use something called WYSIWYG. This stands for ‘What you see is what you get’. These editors allow you to build pages visually using built in tools that allows for positioning, objects, colors, links, etc. on the site without any coding or technical language. When used in conjunction with templates this is an easy way to for beginners to get professional looking sites up and running in no time. Many of these packages also include a simple set up and step by guidance. Some of the most popular WYSIWYG editors are Macromedia Dreamweaver, Sitemaker, Adobe GoLive, Microsoft Frontpage and Xsite Pro.

Just make sure that the end product is what you want your potential customers to visit. The more they like the site the more likely it is that they will stay longer and return more often.

Keeping a website up-to-date with the latest happenings is extremely important. Content is known as King of the Web and plays a very important role in determining sites popularity. AS more people become familiar with the internet it’s necessary to keep websites updated constantly. While it’s necessary to employ site designers, it’s also a good idea to use to software for certain things like content management.

Content management systems have become very easy to use for the management of website content without having any technical knowledge. Many CMS programs are equipped with built0-in libraries of graphics, affiliate program links and they can be utilized by common people to build and manage your site.

CMS is a computer application that is used to manage the work flow needed to collaboratively create, edit, review, index, search, publish and archive various digital media and electronic text according to Wikipedia. These programs are frequently used for the storing, controlling, version, and publishing of documentation. This documentation can include such items as news articles, operator’s manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, brochures and more. It can also manage computer files, image media, audio and video files, and web content.

Content Management Software provides flexibility and convenience for people to design and manage their site without the need to rely on technical people. A CMS can be helpful for consumers who have turned into publishers that are trying to find ways to manage the output of their content. This is perfect for people that don’t have the time or money to spend on designers or programmers, but want to publish and customize their websites frequently on their own.

CMS programs have several advantages. They help to save time in publishing content and are simple and affordable to deploy. Joomla is an open source CMS that is free and is portable between lots of versions. It also has scalability on different platforms making it very simple to use. Since CMS service is delivered through the internet is doesn’t require any hardware to install only for the program.

Other advantages include making the handling and controlling of errors simple and easy to use, many customized templates that are ready to use, speeding up the creation and maintenance of websites, keeping you in touch with social media through blogs, message boards, and RSS feeds. CMS can also be shared by multiple people having different user and administration rights in an organization. This is because it establishes defined publishing processes. CMS is also equipped with the feature of reusability of the content since it’s stored in a database. It will generate completely new output with the available content. Content publication can also be scheduled with CMS to keep track of whose publishing, how quickly the content is being published, whether the schedule is being adhered to, if out of date content is being removed quickly enough and more. This will help to measure the success of your publishing efforts. It also allows publishers to consistently manage the metadata through template structures. Metadata is important in SEO and will help you get better rankings in search engines. A CMS will also allow the user to secure its intranet privacy of content. The privacy is important as different people could have allocated different rights to the content. Another useful benefit is distributed maintenance. This allows content to be edited anytime from anywhere helping to remove bottlenecks.

Content management software can provide great comfort to the user to manage their content effectively and lucratively. It will also allow you to design a common and consistent web content architecture while is essential to have a competent website. It’s important to remember before selecting any CMS to be mindful of its benefits and limitations. A good CMS can be of great value, while a bad CMS can provide more problems than solutions.

Topping organic traffic takes time and persistence. Making your own search engine-friendly site may be easy—as simply tweaking. However, Search Engine Optimization isn’t as simple as tweaking your site. It is more on link building—which means you have to get backlinks from other sites that is related to yours. Backlinks are vital to websites – especially to those marketing sites that need to generate lots of web traffic. They serve as votes casted by one site to another, and they will build the site’s traffic. When one gets many backlinks, one’s site’s ranking in search engine results will skyrocket.

Link building takes a lot of patience because it takes a lot of time. But you may do your link building or build backlinks in many ways; all you need is time and persistence. For instance, you may do blog commenting on DoFollow Blogs. And, if you will do blog commenting you have to be sure that your comment is sensible so that the web owner will accept your comment and allow your comment with link to be posted there. Now, what is a DoFollow link? Why is it vital to Search Engine Optimization? How does it work?

Google discourages link building for them to control search rankings. Because blogs are for public, anybody is open for blog commenting. One consequence of this is there are too many webmasters exploit blog commenting. Webmasters post comments just for the sake of link building rather than contributing to something more sensible. Blog commenting isn’t designed for Search Engine Optimization; it is created to promote involvement and sharing ideas and knowledge that are valuable which the sensible commenter and bloggers are willing to partake. And as the scenario went really bad, Google declared that NoFollow links will be considered as irrelevant backlinks. But somehow, it is still active and clickable. To stop exploitation, Bloggers put NoFollow tags to their blogs.

Unlike before the exploitation of blog commenting occurred, it’s a bit easier to do link building. But despite the dilemma on blog commenting related to link building, here are some tips you may consider:

One is having a directory of DoFollow blogs (you can find some using your browser). Visit the blogs and read current comments. After that take a look at the source code of the blog and make sure that there is no NoFollow tag in it.

Two, you have to participate actively in such blog—do sensible blog commenting consistently. Never post senseless or out of the context comments because chances are: it will just be rejected or deleted, or may be considered as a spam. Rather, make your blog commenting sensible and intellectually constructed. For instance, the blog posted is about “Link Building through Blog Commenting”, the write something you know about the topic, you may read something about it and share it—post it as your comment. Then put your name after your comment, by doing these your comment has a bigger chance to be accepted.

So does DoFollow blog commenting really work for Link Building? My answer is yes! You just have to do things the right way. I’ll leave you this quote: There are so many ways to do something; the surest thing to have positive result is when you do it the right way.

Have you ever heard the word backlinks? Only very few know what a backlink is or its significance in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry. backlinks are the framework in the SEO industry, and this engine uses these backlinks to index and create traffic to a site.

You might have encountered backlinks while you read some blogs, websites, or web pages, etc…when you click backlinks it will link you to another page or site. Other names for backlinks are incoming links, inbound links, or IBL’s. Meaning, these are links from other websites back to your site. That is one of the reasons why big search engines like Google and Yahoo pulls up to its “results” the sites that have these backlinks rather than those sites that do not have backlinks.

Before we appreciate the significance of backlinks, we have to understand first what SEO-Search Engine Optimization is. For instance, DEF opted to add backlinks in your site, this would certainly be advantageous compared to a site rated less than 10. This is referred to as “quality backlinks” and definitely will create tons of traffic to your site. The outcome is—soaring sales and profits.

In backlinks, press release distribution also plays a great role if you’re gunning for a big promotion.

CSS Templates are gaining popularity over Content Management Systems as the preferred method of internet web design and presence. CSS or Cascading Style Sheets and CMS or Content Management Systems are two options businesses have to manage their business web presence. For small business owners, the choice is easy as Content Management Systems are expensive to buy, set up, and maintain. Cascading Style Sheets are inexpensive by comparison and require very little maintenance. Medium and even larger business’ have to make informed decisions as to what is right for them. In comparing CSS to CMS systems, here are five of the most obvious reasons Cascading Style Sheets are the right choice for most business consumers.

Today’s consumers want it and they want it now. The one thing business cannot afford to be is slow. Customer’s will not wait for pages that either are very slow to load or do not load at all. Content Management Systems are driven by databases, when a customer instigates a search on their home computer, the server has to dig through thousands of bit of information on hundreds of pages to find it and load the correct page.

Static sites containing CSS don’t have this problem. They load quickly and easily without hindrances like tables to slow them down.

With very few exceptions, the CMS system has limited template designs and sometimes only one style to use throughout the site. If the company wanted to change the look of their online presence, a designer would have to come in and reload all new templates. Most companies will not undertake this time consuming and daunting task.

1) In CSS, anyone can go online, and within minutes, find, and download a template. Most of the time, the templates are free. They can be loaded in one page or all the pages, also within minutes and in many cases, this can be accomplished with a click or two of the mouse.

2) In a CMS dynamic web site environment, URL strings with numbers and symbols cause problems for search engines web bots. This can severely damage your standings in search engine rankings, as spiders cannot index the sites rank

3) An over abundance of parameters in dynamic Content Management Systems URLs can actually repel web crawlers. This is not the case when using CSS Templates.

4) The Difficult of use factor comes into play with the CMS system when you consider training costs and programming, fees for licensing, service and maintenance fees. Overall costs after all fees and implementation costs could potentially skyrocket when you consider that many systems do not have direct and dedicated support. These problems simply do not exist with Cascading Style Sheets on a static site.

5) Finally, remember the lack of dedicated support we spoke of? If you don’t back-up CMS systems on a regular basis you run the risk of losing your data. It only takes one missed back-up and an unforeseen problem to destroy all the data your company needs to survive. CSS Templates require no back-ups.

These five major points are just a few of the differences that swing the tide in favor of CSS over CMS. It is very important to know all your options before taking on the risks. CMS are the absolute best choice for large corporations who need the ease of site management and data that they provide.

What will your preference be? CSS or CMS? Share with us, I like to hear from you.

Broken links in your website can reflect badly, telling your readers that you are not up to date, and do not know what happen in your website. Imagine your readers wanting to read what you are recommending or bringing them to related content, but were not there anymore? What would your readers feel?

I am not sure what you will feel, for me I felt that this website do not know what its doing and not maintaining it properly. Is this what you felt too? This is very true for search engines like Google (especially!!!).

Why Search Engines Dislike Broken Links, Especially Google.

Google is all about relevance, giving the searchers a good user experience is one of Google’s focus. So if there are a lot of broken links in your website, Google will actually rank you lower than previous, until you do a cleanup or link to another related web page.

Google’s foundation is all about giving the internet users a good experience. If you are not able to do, your site will risk being rank down instead of up.

Broken Links: How to undo them?

There are two ways to go about, one is to manually check all your web pages and click all the links. I must say that this will be madness if you have over 50 pages and growing overtime. I would suggest to do this if you have less than 30 web pages, its easier and better for you.

The second way is to use a software or third party to do that for you. This third party link checker is best to go checking the links at least once a week. For me, I used LinkTiger to check all my broken links. Best of all it checks daily rather than weekly, and its free!

Keeping a constant check on your website for broken links is essential to rank better in the search engines. You would not want to risk losing some of the rankings while doing your best to provide new content. Remember its all about the Internet user’s experiences, not you or your website.
