Advice for Building Your Own Website

By Joshua Elliot On May 5, 2010 Under Website General

There are a few different ways to create a successful online site for your business. This will help you to market your products or services to the online community.

The first way is that if you have HTML experience you can build it yourself. There are many resources to learning HTML coding including researching it online or taking classes at a local college or school. This isn’t for everyone, and if you don’t know already know HTML then be sure to factor in the time that will be involved to learn the coding.

Another option is to hire a web designer to build the site for you. Before consulting any designer be sure you have a plan of what you want. Make a list of all the features, functions and appearance of the site that you want to have. It may be helpful to visit other sites to help generate ideas of what you want. Also make sure to see examples of the designers work. Be sure to discuss their and find out if there are any additional costs associated with adding certain features.

Many webpage editors use something called WYSIWYG. This stands for ‘What you see is what you get’. These editors allow you to build pages visually using built in tools that allows for positioning, objects, colors, links, etc. on the site without any coding or technical language. When used in conjunction with templates this is an easy way to for beginners to get professional looking sites up and running in no time. Many of these packages also include a simple set up and step by guidance. Some of the most popular WYSIWYG editors are Macromedia Dreamweaver, Sitemaker, Adobe GoLive, Microsoft Frontpage and Xsite Pro.

Just make sure that the end product is what you want your potential customers to visit. The more they like the site the more likely it is that they will stay longer and return more often.

Great article, thanks for sharing, I also had problems when trying to make simple landingpages, I now do it for a living by making web-sites for customers and earn few bucks. I now use b2website.com, a very easy to use platform for a dummy like me.

    Hi Johny,

Thank you for your comment. It’s nice to hear that you and I are just the same (actually all who first started too). Not knowing anything, so making money online is not easy, but it was the constant trying and learning that got us where we are now.

Hope to see you again. Hear from you soon.
